Should Your Golden Retriever Eat People Food?

A lot of people wonder what type of human food they should feed their Golden.  Even though many prefer to stick with dog food and only dog food, there are certain types of human food that Golden Retrievers love – and is actually good for them.  Golden’s crave attention as we all know – and when they watch you eat it never hurts to give them a bite – as long as you know what they should and shouldn’t consume with their diets.

For your Golden’s health, feeding him foods such as chicken, raw vegetables, turkey, brown rice, fruits, and oatmeal are always great.  Even though we think of these type foods as “human food”, they are actually good for many animals as well.  All dogs have taste buds and noses, meaning that they get very excited when they see you with food.

If your Golden Retriever runs to the refrigerator when you open it up, he’s trying to tell you that he smells something good.  Even though he may run to the refrigerator, he isn’t begging for food as many think, he is simply wanting to have some real food.  Once your Golden starts to do this, you should give him some of what he wants.  Although most real food is great for Golden’s, there are some that aren’t quite so good.

Egg whites
If you feed your Golden a large amount of egg white in his diet, he will get a deficiency in biotin, which is a B vitamin, due to the amount of avidin, which is a very destructive substance.  If you are feeding your Golden Retriever egg yolks, you shouldn’t worry as the effects of avidin will be offset by the high biotin levels that are found in egg yolks.  You can also feed your Golden egg shells as well, as they contain a large amount of protein.  If you want the best for your Golden – try feeding him raw eggs – with the shell intact.

Any form of Chocolate
We all know never to feed chocolate to any type of animal.  Chocolate contains bromine, which is very toxic to both dogs and cats.  Unsweet chocolate is by far the worst to feed to your Golden, as it contains a large amount of bromine.  Bromine is a very harmful chemical, one that normally leads to death of your animal should he be fed any type of chocolate.

There are other foods out there that can be good or harmful to your Golden.  If you have any questions, you should always ask your veterinarian.  Your vet will be able to recommended real food that is beneficial to your Golden, as well as foods you should avoid.  You can experiment with real food if you like – although you should never allow your Golden Retriever to consume any type of chocolate.

Feeding Your Golden Retriever – How To Avoid Giving Him Human Food!

All of us who have pets, find them sitting next to its favorite member of the household, who is at the dining table eating human food. The Golden Retriever looks longing at you, and often utters a small woof, especially when it smells a delicious piece that you are picking up and putting in your mouth.

What should you do? Is it advisable to feed the Golden Retriever, your pet, what you are eating? You have bought the recommended dog foods, but it has become a human almost, living day and day out with you. And it acquires the same tastes as you do. So there’s a dilemma here.

The best would be to consult with the Vet what kinds of human foods you can feed safely to your Golden Retriever. A bite does not matter, but going the whole hog? That’s a very different cup of tea, and care has to be taken.

So without substituting the Vet’s advice for your particular Golden Retriever – every dog has its own allergies and digestive system, and the metabolism may vary, we give some tips on what can be given generally.

Chickens, raw vegetables, turkey, brown rice, furits, oatmeal, are as good for them as they are for you. All animals have taste buds just like you and me. Some may prefer the oatmeal or chicken, ignoring the brown rice or the raw vegies, some the other way around. You can’t tell, just as you can’t tell for your children. If you are a child, you too ignore what your taste bud doesn’t like or you are not in the mood! And the dogs love to eat with the family; if you see a litter, and you have, they all eat together, just like us!

Well, if you open the frig, and your golden retriever runs up and sits there with his tongue hanging out, you can take it as a compliment! its not that it is asking you for a piece or a slice, it’s just that what you have cooked smells great to him! And he would love it if you gave him a piece.. how many of your family members do that?

There are some don’t does. And do follow them, and be firm about it.

1. Egg whites

Feeding large amounts of egg whites is spoiling the golden. Too much of it creates an excess of avidin, which results in Vitamin B deficiency. But if you give him egg yolks, it’s okay; egg yolks contain higher Vitamin B levels which will neutralise the avidin. The best is to give him the whole egg – raw – including the shell. That gives them lots of proteins. To vary it, you can choose to mix up the three, egg whites, whole egg, and the egg yolk. That means you have a choice of 9 varities you can use. (3 to the power of 3)!

2. Chocolates

Chocolates are a big NO. it contains Bromine, very toxic to dogs and cats. Unsweet chocolate is even worse: the Bromine content is much larger, and even more toxic. And is fatal if not checked right from the beginning.

As we said earlier, generally most human foods are acceptable for your pet, except chocolates. However, it is always best to consult your Vet who can guide you properly, which human foods can be used, or not used, what should be the ratio, and so on.

It’s just like your asking your physician for a healthy diet for yourself. The same applies to your pet. After all, it’s your best friend. Would you not take that precaution for your human best friend?

So take care. And, yes, by the way, this article is an illustrative one, and is not meant to be a substitute for professional advice. Never act on it without consulting your Vet first.

Yes, we do so emphatically, NO CHOCOLATES for your pets, come hell or high water!

Dog Health Improved by Natural Food

Natural food for dogs is not artificial coloring dyes, not meat byproducts, sugar or corn syrup, and other common filler commercial dog food ingredients. Read the label of your favorite wet or canned dog food and see what ingredients are listed, and in what order. The items are listed by the amount contained in the food.

Moisture is usually number one at approximately 78% or more. So three quarters of what you are buying is water. Some type of animal by products is next, that could mean animal hair, gristle, hoofs, feathers, etc. Next up are the minuscule items like actual meat, vegetables, or rice. They also use artificial flavorings and sugar to make the food taste good.

You might also notice that many commercial brands make note that they adhere to the AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Officials). This is an organization that is a private advisory board. Well, guess what? AFFCO has no enforcement authority, no input as to quality, and does no testing. In short, they are worthless and have no impact on the quality of the pet food industry at all.

The accepted ratio of protein, fat, and carbohydrates is minimum 23% for protein, 20% fat, and 40% or more carbohydrates. When you read your commercial can food labels, most are less than 7% crude protein (meat by products which produce little actual protein since it can’t be properly digested – it just passes through), 7% fat, and maybe 9% carbohydrates.

There are two problems, the quality of the food and low levels of nutrition, plus all the toxins and contaminants. Some of the higher quality foods have removed all the by products and offer a much higher level of nutrients. But they still don’t even come close the recommended levels of the basics. But they are much healthier and you can also provide some additional supplements (like raw meat, fish, and vegetables) to bring up the nutrients to an acceptable level.

Just like in humans, your dog is what he/she eats. The more natural food and fewer toxins, the more healthy your dog will be and the less time you will spend at the vet. I’ve seen many dogs who were listless, suffering from many small ailments, coat dull, and barely able to get around miraculously recover and act like a young dog again when their diets were changed to natural and healthy food.

A good comparison would be if you ate Twinkies, moon pies, and hot dogs every day for food. Yes, they taste good but there’s little nutritional value in the way of protein, vitamins, and other necessary foods. You would start gaining weight and exhibiting the same common health problems that many dogs do with low nutrition foods.

Problems like allergies, skin disorders, mouth and gum problems, and bladder problems all can be eliminated by switching to all natural food ingredients with out additives. The difference is cost is considerable until you look at the over all health costs. One trip to the vet is going to be $75. If you feed your dog a can of $.50 dog food every day, to go natural can cost around $1.00 a can. That’s only an extra $30 bucks a month for the good stuff and with no trips to the vet, will probably be cheaper in the long run.

Your dog will live longer and be much more healthy for a relatively small amount of money well spent. The quality of life for your pet will be increased dramatically. Dog health is directly related to their diet, just like us.

Information On Cat food And Dog Health

Cats are very useful in hunting down pests like the ones mentioned afore, because they are intelligent. When hunting a cat ambushes its prey, just like other felines, for example tigers and leopards. After that a lethal bite on the neck is delivered to the hunted, killing them instantly. This is because the spinal cord is crushed, massive bleeding is caused by puncturing the jugular vein or the carotid artery.

If you want to care for your cat and not let it hunt down all of its food, you can purchase cat food. Their diet is mainly based on meat. Even so, most of the commercial cat food we find today has animal, as well as plant material in it. Apart from those, minerals, vitamins and other nutrients can be found in the composition of it.

The formula on which cat food is based addresses mainly the need of cats. For example, if you mix the food you use to feed your dog and feed it to your feline companion, the cat will go blind. This is mainly due to the lack of amino acid taurine, a substance which the dogs do not require, but without which the cats cannot function properly. Thus you should be very careful what you use to feed your cat.

There are several types of cat food available on the market. The most comprising categories would be wet and dry food. Dog food is also separated in these categories, but there are a few differences, and not only in what materials had they used to make it.

First of all there are two methods used to obtain dry dog food. Feline dry food making uses only one process – extrusion. After that, the pellets obtained can be sprayed with lots of other ingredients, so the final products will be healthier and more appetizing for the cats.

Wet food is recommended by many veterinarians because of the high level of water contained in it. It is useful for solving a lot of problems, but there are some downsides to it. First of all, the prices of wet food are much higher than the ones for dry food. From another point of view, dry food can be left in the bowl for the cat to eat whenever it likes, whereas wet food spoils after a few hours.

Choosing the appropriate cat food for your companion is not an easy task. You should always consult a veterinarian before feeding anything to your cat or you should do a little research online. If you want more information about this topic, you should visit nutrecare.co.uk.

We mentioned earlier about another pet which is also known as men’s best friend. Yes, I’m talking about the dog. What are the most important aspects concerning dog health? As with human health, dog health is always best attended if harmful acts are prevented.

What should you do? Dog health enjoys a lot more solutions than human health because most diseases your dog may suffer from can be treated either with medications or with surgery and physical therapy. However, dog health is always best preserved with a successful diet and a lot of care from the owners.
